The Haggerston Monoliths

What are the Haggerston Monoliths?

The Haggerston Monoliths are a set of slate monoliths carved by artist and stone-carver Bobbie Fennick in Haggerston, London. They are a public art project commissioned by Creative City Ltd. for the Residents’ Association of the Haggerston and Kingsland community estate and the London and Quadrant Housing Association.

Created over a seven year period of consultation, design and creation, the monoliths are made from cut slate, sourced in Wales, and carved by Fennick in her studio and in situ onsite in Haggerston square. She made an intensive 70-day residency onsite with residents, who helped design the relief carvings, and learned stone-carving techniques in a series of workshops.
